Horse Health Competition

Horse shows have been around since medieval times, and gives riders the opportunity to demonstrate excellent horsemanship and show off their hard-working companions.

So if your eyes are on that coveted blue ribbon, here are a few tips to help come out on top:

Attend a show before competing in one: If you are new to the competition season, check out a few shows before signing up for one yourself. Take notes and prepare yourself so you know what to expect when it’s your turn to compete!

Don’t wear out your animal: Though you may be thinking that practice makes perfect – it’s important you don’t overwork your animal before a show. This will not only stress out both you and your horse, but it will take away your animal’s energy that it should be saving for the competition.

Dress to impress: Your horse isn’t the only thing being judged when competing in shows. Make sure your apparel and color schemes do not clash with your animal. You and your horse are a team – you should look cohesive when riding together to show off your great companionship!.

Prepare your equipment the day before: This includes cleaning your tack, and making sure it is rid of dust or dirt. Make sure you have all of the equipment you need ready the day before a competition so that way you are fully prepared the day of.

Treat your animal after the competition: Tend to your animal’s needs before taking off your riding boots for the day. Check over your animal for any injuries, and give your animal a little grooming after a long day of competing. Both you and your horse deserve a little rest and relaxation!
